Network infrastructure upgrade at Museum of Contemporary Art Australia

Scope of Works

Network Equipment Procurement

  • Procured enterprise-grade Aruba switches and Wi-Fi access points, along with Cat6a and fibre optic cabling. These devices were chosen for their reliability, performance, and scalability to support the museum's demanding network requirements.

Structured Cabling Installation

  • Installed Cat6a and fibre optic cabling throughout the museum to support high-speed data transfers. This included wiring for network access points, digital exhibits, gallery spaces, and staff areas.

  • The cabling was structured to ensure minimal latency and optimal data flow across the museum's expansive network, supporting both current operations and future expansion.

Wi-Fi Solution Implementation

  • Designed a high-density Wi-Fi network using Aruba wireless controllers and access points, ensuring seamless and stable wireless coverage for the museum's public areas, administrative offices, and gallery spaces.

  • This included configuration for separate networks, such as a guest network for visitors and a secure internal network for staff, with appropriate bandwidth allocation and security policies.

Firewall Upgrades and High-Availability Configuration

  • Upgraded the museum's firewall to enhance protection against cyber threats and data breaches, ensuring the security of both visitor data and valuable digital assets.

  • The firewall was configured with high-availability (HA) features to ensure failover protection and uninterrupted network services in case of hardware failures, critical for maintaining museum operations.

Consulting Services and Testing

  • Metwide provided consulting services on the network's architecture, including planning for future expansions and compliance with industry standards for cultural institutions.

  • Comprehensive testing was conducted to verify network performance, including load testing and Wi-Fi heat mapping to ensure strong, consistent coverage throughout all areas of the museum.

Key Outcomes

Seamless Connectivity

Enhanced network performance with extensive Wi-Fi coverage across public and operational areas, supporting both the museum's daily activities and high-traffic special events and exhibitions.

Improved Security

Upgraded firewall with high-availability features ensured that the museum's network was well protected from external threats, with failover systems in place for continuous operation.

Future-Proofed Infrastructure

The structured cabling and Wi-Fi solutions were designed for scalability, allowing the museum to expand its network capacity and support new digital initiatives and technologies.
