Hearing Induction Loop Upgrade for Nepean Creative & Performing Arts High School
Restoring accessibility with enhanced audio transmission for hearing aid users through comprehensive system assessment, upgrade, and testing.
Project Overview
Client: Nepean Creative & Performing Arts High School
Location: Emu Plains, NSW
Project Summary: Metwide Communications was commissioned to assess and upgrade the Hearing Induction Loop system in the auditorium at Nepean Creative & Performing Arts High School. The existing system, essential for assisting individuals with hearing impairments, had become non-operational. Following a detailed evaluation, we replaced key components and improved the system to restore full functionality, ensuring accessibility for all users during performances and events.

Scope of Works
System Assessment and Diagnostics
Conducted a site survey to evaluate the existing induction loop system. Measurements of field strength were taken at multiple points in the auditorium, revealing insufficient signal strength in key seating areas, highlighting system failure.
Investigated electromagnetic interference and discovered minor interference near emergency exit signs, though this was not the primary cause of the system malfunction.
Hearing Induction Loop System Upgrade
Installed a new Hearing Induction Loop Amplifier to replace the existing overheating amplifier. The new amplifier provided enhanced signal strength and consistent audio transmission to the hearing loop.
Laid additional cabling and reconfigured the loop system to ensure broader and more consistent coverage throughout the auditorium, addressing the previous issue of uneven signal distribution.
Used rack ears, cabinets, and appropriate hardware to securely mount the amplifier, ensuring a professional and durable installation.
Testing and Calibration
After installation, the system was thoroughly tested using a Hearing Induction Loop Tester to ensure compliance with hearing aid standards. The system was calibrated to deliver uniform coverage across the auditorium, particularly focusing on seating and stage areas.
Verified that the new loop system provided consistent field strength, with minimal interference, ensuring clear audio transmission for hearing aid users.
Improved Ventilation for System Longevity
Addressed the issue of overheating by relocating the amplifier to a space with better ventilation, ensuring reliability and preventing future equipment failures.
